Our Story.

Women of the Triangle Hiking Club, founded in May 2021 and established as a 501(c)(3) organization in October of the same year, is a vibrant community of more than 6,000 women united by their love for hiking and a shared aspiration to enrich their lives. While Kitty Gayner was the visionary behind the club's creation, the essence of this organization is defined by the remarkable women who have joined this ever-expanding adventure.

Women of the Triangle Hiking Club, or WOTTHC, believes in the transformative power of community and the great outdoors. This young organization emerged from a deeply personal journey. After relocating to North Carolina and finding solace in female friendships and hiking during a challenging time, Kitty Gayner discovered a lack of hiking groups in the Triangle area. Determined to create a space where women could connect, explore, and empower one another, she embarked on a mission to build what she sought. Her goal was to create an outdoor community that was not focused on miles but on connection.

From humble beginnings, WOTTHC has grown into a thriving community driven by word-of-mouth referrals and a shared passion for adventure. What sets us apart is our commitment to inclusivity and accessibility. We are entirely volunteer-run, with over 40 dedicated individuals contributing their time and expertise to ensure the success of our organization. This incredible volunteer-run structure is the key to success in offering this space free of charge to all who join.

For Kitty, Women of the Triangle Hiking Club is more than just a club—it's a testament to the power of resilience and the importance of following your passion. Through meaningful connections and shared experiences, she has witnessed firsthand the club's profound impact on its members' lives.

Looking ahead, we are committed to expanding our reach and introducing new programs that promote accessibility and diversity within the hiking community. Our goal is simple: to show all women that they belong in nature and provide them with the support and resources they need to thrive.

Join us as we write the next chapter of our story—a story of empowerment, camaraderie, and endless possibilities. We don’t just summit mountains. We move them.

Kitty currently still serves as the president and director of WOTTHC.
